This book examines the humanity of Mary, the "earth-side of the Incarnation" through the doctrine, hymnography and icons of the Orthodox Church. These sources give us insight into how Mary dealt with her giving birth, nurturing, relinquishing, sorrow and joy. Her responses to these challenges are instructive for how we address what is given to us in our own lives. Mary, then, becomes the model for each of us as we grow toward transformation in Christ. At the end of each chapter, reflection questions lead us deeper into this awareness.
